I have a few passions which I recently succeeded to convert in an ideal union. Baking + programming + teaching = Learning Breakfasts with my colleagues. The idea is: we come for a short meeting with some baking goods where we discuss some aspect of programming and learn together.
People love it. Today we spent 1.5 hours instead of 30 minutes writing unit tests together. Everyone of us had a lot of other tasks to finish, but LEARNING TOGETHER IS SUCH A FUN, and understanding that we combine our knowledge in order to improve our product feels great.
Here are some tips in case you want to organize something similar:
- make meetings short (30 minutes sound perfect)
- do it in the morning (brains are fresher), avoid early mornings - people hate to be in rush in order to be in time for a meeting
- discuss the topic beforehand, let people vote for it
- have a clear agenda
- don't just present (just listening to someone's presentation may be sooooooooo boring), identify week spot in the product end suggest your teammates to improve it together
- be sure you booked the meeting room beforehand (ability to make a presentation in quiet place without outer disruption is important)
- listen to the ideas and at the end of the meetings agree on next actions
- and the most important - have some lure (who doesn't like free cookies?)
- enjoy the result! Marrying some of your passions results in spending less time on them and having nice feeling of doing something that you love regularly.

Людям подобається. Сьогодні ми провели півтори години замість запланованих півгодини, пишучи разом юніт-тести. У кожного була купа роботи окрім того, але ж НАВЧАТИСЯ РАЗОМ ВЕСЕЛО, а усвідомлення того що разом ми поєднуємо знання і покращуємо продукт має приємний ефект.
Ось деякі підказки на випадок якщо хочеться організувати щось подібне:
- зустрічі мають бути короткими (30 хвилин - ідеальний час)
- роби це вранці (доки мізки ще свіжі), але не занадто рано - кому подобається поспішати на нараду з самого ранку?
- винеси тему на обговорення заздалегідь, дай можливість проголосувати
- май чіткий план наради
- не обмежуйся лише виступом, визнач слабкі місця в продукті і запропонуй колегам разом їх виправити
- зарезервуй залу для нарад заздалегідь, щоб уникнути зовнішнього шуму
- прислухайся до ідей і в кінці наради визнач наступні кроки
- і найголовніше - не забудь про приманку (хто не любить безкоштовне печивко?)
- насолоджуйся результатом! Поєднання декількох хобі сприяє витрачанню менше часу на них і задоволенню від справ, які любиш, регулярно.
La gente lo ama. Hoy pasamos 1.5 horas en lugar de 30 minutos escribiendo unit tests. Todos nosotros tuvimos que hacer muchas otras tareas, pero APRENDER JUNTOS ES TAN DIVERTIDO, y entender que combinamos nuestros conocimientos para mejorar nuestro producto es fantástico.
Aquí hay algunos consejos, si quieres organizar algo similar:

- ten una agenda clara
- no solo presente (solo escuchar a la presentación de alguien puede ser taaaaan aburrido), identifique unos puntos debiles del producto, sugiera a tus compañeros que lo mejoren juntos
- asegúrete de reservar la sala de reuniones de antemano (la capacidad de hacer una presentación en un lugar tranquilo sin interrupción externa es importante)
- escucha a las ideas y al final de la reunion acorda las próximas acciones
- y lo más importante: ten algo de señuelo (¿a quién no le gustan unas galletas gratuitas?)
- disfruta el resultado! Casar algunas de tus pasiones resulta en menos tiempo pasando y teniendo la sensación agradable de hacer algo preferido regularmente.
